About the Author

Dr Rosanna Cooper is the managing partner of RT Coopers Solicitors, based in the City of London, as well a commercial/business consultant. Dr Cooper advises both the public and private sectors. The firm specialises in corporate and commercial law including intellectual property (IP), pharmaceuticals, technology, IT, media and entertainment, corporate transactions and commercial litigation.  Dr Cooper has over 15 years’ experience as a lawyer working mainly in the City of London. Before establishing RT Coopers, she was a partner in a West End firm where she was the head of the IP/IT department.  She is a leading expert in IP. In a corporate context, she advises and assists corporate clients on global transactions in a range of industry sectors including, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals regulatory and media and entertainment. She advises corporate clients, spin-out companies, start-ups and small and medium sized enterprises (SME’s).  

Dr Cooper gained her Ph.D. in organic and medicinal chemistry from King’s College, University of London and pursued her postdoctoral research with SmithKline Beecham (now Glaxo SmithKline).  She later worked as a senior pharmaceutical and paper chemist for Eli Lilly and Hercules respectively. Dr Cooper now advises international clients on IP in relation to a range of industries including, the biosciences, pharmaceutical, IT and media and entertainment industries.  Her role also extends to drafting, advising and negotiating commercial contracts, licences, joint ventures, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions especially the intellectual property and IT aspects of such corporate transactions.

 

Dr Cooper is unique in that she combines legal advice with business/commercial consultancy advice to corporate organisations, SME’s, not for profit organisations, government bodies and start-ups. She is an accomplished International speaker and writes regularly on the law. Dr Cooper sits on a number of advisory panels and is a regular contributor of articles to publications.  She is highly regarded both as a lawyer and business advisor. She has been cited in “The Times” on IP issues and in 2000 Law.com referred to her as having “…one of the most remarkable CVs to be found in legal London.”

 

Dr Cooper is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and a Chartered Scientist, an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents (“CIPA”).
